New Prairie Is Hosting a Sectional!

Good morning all!  I have just found out that New Prairie is hosting a Sectional this year!  That means that we have another football game for Concessions!

On October 19, NP will be playing SB Clay here.  We will need workers for the concession stand once again!  Our band will not be playing at this game, so some of them will be joining us to work.  I will still need all the positions filled.  It will probably be cold again, but the concession stand is always a warm place to be.

I have put a sign-up sheet on our Google Docs page.  You can follow the link on the side, or the one here: Sectional Concession Stand Workers.

The time listed is tentative as I do not yet have a confirmation of 6:30pm kick-off.  If the time changes, you will be notified.

Thanks for all your help this year!

A PACKED October Is Here!

Well, hello again!  It is hard to believe that it is already October!  We have a very busy month here at Music Boosters and for the students at NPHS.

We have several events coming up this month!

LAST HOME GAME - This Friday night!  We are still in need of a few people to help in the concession stand. Check out our link to the "Concession Stand Worker Signup" page to see if you are already scheduled. If you are willing to stay the end of the game (or a bit after) to help us close and clean the concession stand, please let me or Kathy Jack know.

BAND COMPETITION - This Saturday, Oct. 6th - NP Marching Cougars will be competing in ISSMA's Festival Class at Jackson Middle School in South Bend.  Let's cheer on our band!

FALL SAMPLER - Oct. 24.  This year we are featuring all the performing arts departments.   Marching Band, Choirs and 8th grade band will perform as usual, but the drama department will also be previewing a few scenes from the fall musical, Footloose.

Tickets for all music department events will be $5 for adults and $4 for students.  Preschool children attending with their families are free.

HAUNT! - Fischer Farms is letting NPHS Performing Arts departments hold a haunted corn maze this year.  The Haunt will be on Oct. 26 and 27.  (The corn maze will be open at other times too. Contact Scott and Becky Fischer for more information.)

So, how is that for a packed October?

Next Music Boosters meeting will be held on Nov. 5th at 7pm.  Please come in the doors by the cafeteria on the NORTH side of the school (not the pool doors).

Mr. Strasser has let me know that the Choir website is now live. You can find the link on the side bar of this page.

To top off today's post, I'd like to include IU's video from Band Day when the Marching Band traveled to Bloomington last month.

New Prairie is located on the lower left corner, between the 25 and 30 yard lines.

Remember, if you have any questions or want to help out, you can comment here or email me.

Until next time.

"Thank You"s and Concession Stand Worker Updates...

Hello Music Boosters!

We are well underway for this school year. Your response to the call for workers in the concession stand has been wonderful! Thank you to all who have signed up to work.

If you have not filled out a Boosters Parent Contact Form, please click the Music Booster Sign Up Form link on the right.  This just makes sure that we have your contact info.  You will be added to our email list. If you know other parents that do not get updates about our blog posts or other email choir, band or color guard news, please share this with them.

A big thank you goes to Kathy Jack who has volunteered to handle the worker assignments and reminders. Another thank you to Tim and Stephanie Rozinski for coming forward to run the stand during the games. Jodi and Andy Walbring have run the concessions stand for "more years than I care to count". With their son playing varsity this year, we needed another manager in the concession stand. Jodi is still working with us to open and close the stand as well as doing the purchasing.

Please check out the concession signup sheet to the right.  This link takes you to a Google Docs Spreadsheet.  The first page is just basic info, dates, how many workers needed, and who signed up.  Each game then has their own tab. Tabs are located at the bottom of your browser window (at the top if you are viewing on a mobile browser such as iPhone).  On the game tab, you will find various positions/ places we need filled.  For example, if you really want to take the customer orders, we will put you on a "Window."  If you want to come early and help make and bag popcorn, we will place you there.  If you don't care, your name will go in the "Where Ever" and we will fill you in where needed during that game.  We try to honor requests when possible.  Just let me know where to add your name!

You don't always need to work the full game either.  We have some that come in early and help us open and some that come at half-time and stay till close.  We also need some people that are willing to come in and work during 1/2 time so our band parents can get out to see the show.  Just let us know when/what part of the game you would like to work so that we can schedule and make sure the stand is fully staffed the whole game.

Another way to help during the game is to help man the ND Ticket Drawing table. We had a parent donate a pair of tickets to a Notre Dame game.  We are selling tickets for $5 each or 3 for $10.  The drawing will be held at the last home game.  We will be having a few people staff the ticket table.  This position will be on the Concession Sign-Up soon.

I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you on Friday night at the football game.  As always, you can contact me with questions.  You can also comment on any of the posts here on the blog.

Concessions and New Signup Form

Happy first Friday of the school year!  I am excited to see your band students perform the Half-Time show on the field for the first time tonight.

We have had a great response to our Concession Sign ups.  Tonight's game is staffed.  I am still looking for people for the rest of the season.  Please follow the link on the side to see the available dates.  Then email me or call me so I can add your name!

If you haven't filled out a sign-up form from Music Boosters, either online or paper, I have updated and streamlined our contact signup form.  If you did fill one out, you may have received a paper with the information I have on file already filled in. Please review and return to the school with any revisions.  If all information is correct, make a note and return it to me.  You can also send any changes or verifications to my email, katel70@hotmail.com.

Parent Informational Meeting!

Good morning Music Boosters!

Can you believe that school is starting in just 2 weeks? Summer has gone by way too fast.  Band has started their practices already and Choir will be starting theirs soon as well.

We have a couple Informational meetings planned here at the beginning of the year.  Band will have their first meeting on Monday, July 30 at 7:30 – 8:30 PM.  Choir parents are welcome to come as well, but we will be talking about a few things that are Band specific.  Choir will be having their Informational meeting in a week or two (date and time not set).  We are setting these first meetings up to coincide with the end of practices that students have.

At Monday’s meeting we will start talking about what is planned for this fall.  We will be talking about Band Camp, Band Fees, Preview Show and dinner, Fall Concessions, Sponsorship forms and Performance Teams.

I look forward to seeing you then.

Marching Practice Snacks for the summer...

Good Evening!  How have your kids done so far at Band Camp?  I am hearing reports that "Party Rock Anthem" is sounding great and they are starting to "get" the marching exercise.  Students have also received  the opener for the show this fall.

After all that work, the kids are ready for a snack and a drinks as they go home.  We are still needing parents to provide a drink or a snack for several dates. If you sign up, we are providing for 72 kids this year.

I have been trying to get a spreadsheet that you all can just add your own names to, but Google Docs is not letting that feature work for me today.  So I have created a spread sheet with all the dates and spaces for Snacks and Drinks.  Those who have already signed up, your last names are filled in with your preferred date.  Some of you indicated that we could pick a date for you, you will be getting a call soon to schedule a day.

If you would like to pick a date and help us out, you can email or call me, or you can post a comment to this blog post.

Thank you so much!

That doesn't means me, does it?

As I was looking over the sign up form (see the link at the bottom of this post) I noticed that most of these things apply to band, not choir.

If you are a choir parent, please still complete the form, but do not feel that you need to sign up for the summer activities like Band camp and parades.  We use this list as a way to contact parents with important information and when we need help at music related activities.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sign Up Sheet - Did you get yours?

We all know how it is.  Papers that our kids receive never actually make it to Mom or Dad. Or maybe Mom and Dad got the papers, but didn't fill them out.  Or then, did the student take it back in to class and give it to the teacher?

In an effort to bypass the "lost paper" syndrome, Music Boosters has set up an online sign up sheet!

Click the link provided and fill out the form.  If you have already filled out and returned a form, there is no need to fill out this form as well.

Sign-up Form

A Summer Band Snack signup sheet should be coming home with your student before the end of the year.  You can sign up on that sheet or here online.

Feel free to comment!

Thanks for reading.

New Prairie Music Boosters

What is Music Boosters?

Welcome to the Music Boosters site for New Prairie High School's Band, Choir and Color Guard.

Did you know that there is a Music Boosters organization at New Prairie High School?

Our goal is to provide opportunities and recognize the students of the music department (choir, band, color guard and twirlers) which are not funded by our school corporation, but are necessary to sustain a high quality program to participating students.  Some of those benefits include:

v     Help paying for Letter Jackets
v     Senior Recognition Dinner
v     Drum Major Camp
v     Cleaning of Robes and Uniforms
v     Annual Recognition Awards
v     Swing Choir Camp
v     Color Guard Funding
v     Musical Instruments for Band

Students and staff work hard for these opportunities and Music Boosters is privileged to provide them.  As with the success of any organization, our continued success depends of the participation of parents.  If all parents of students in one of our music programs would volunteer just a few hours each school year, our Booster Club will continue to grow and support our students.

Our primary source of revenue is staffing the concession stand during home football games.  Staffing is a fun way to develop new friendships while supporting out students. In addition there are several other ways to support our music students and we have enclosed is a listing of them for you to review and reference. We have divided our list of volunteer opportunities to include more parents.  The response this past year was very good.  Please give serious consideration to volunteering a few hours during the 2012-2013 school year.

Please check the other posts to see how you can help support our students through New Prairie Music Boosters.

Thank you.
